Is your emotional baggage keeping you from being healthy?

By March 27, 2015 No Comments

Yep. You read that title right. Your emotional baggage could be keeping you in a state of sickness.

According to the American Medical Association (AMA) 80% of all diseases are stress related and the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) has stated that 85% of all diseases appear to have an emotional element.

FMTV has released this eye-opening film on emotional health and its connection to physical health.

While it might be a bit odd at first to think of emotions as energy movements with varying frequencies, the more one studies the data surrounding emotional short-circuiting that can cause physical dysfunction, the less odd it will seem to you.

Your body experiences emotions as frequencies of energy, as vibrations. Every emotion has its own vibratory signature – anger, abandonment, loneliness, rejection, criticalness, insecurity, anxiety, over-thinking, grief, envy etc. These emotions can become trapped in your body, especially when experienced with intensity and that typically results in physical dysfunction.

As Dr. Mercola explains “your body cannot tell the difference between an actual experience that triggers an emotional response, and an emotion fabricated through thought process alone—such as when worrying about something negative that might occur but has not actually happened, or conversely, thinking about something positive and pleasant. The fact that you can activate your body’s stress response (which produces chemicals that can make you sick) simply by thinking means that you wield tremendous power over your physical state in every moment.”

There is a technique, that isn’t new to natural health practitioners, The Emotional Freedome Technique (EFT) is geared towards reducing the emotional impact of memories and incidents through tapping various acupuncture points along various meridians of the body while speaking and focusing on positive beliefs. This is a non-invasive activity that many patients at The Spring Center for Natural Medicine have benefitted from. Check out the picture here to see which acupuncture points are tapped during one of these exercises.

EFT is not some hippie craze, but has indeed been studied substantially. From Dr. Mercola:

  • A critical review published in the American Psychological Association’s (APA) journal Review of General Psychology4 found that EFT “consistently demonstrated strong effect sizes and other positive statistical results that far exceed chance after relatively few treatment sessions.”
  • A 2009 study5 of 16 institutionalized adolescent boys with histories of physical or psychological abuse showed substantially decreased intensity of traumatic memories after just ONE session of EFT.
  • An EFT study6 involving 30 moderately to severely depressed college students found that depressed students given four 90-minute EFT sessions showed significantly less depression than the control group when evaluated three weeks later.
  • A 2013 study published in the Energy Psychology Journal7 confirmed that the benefits from EFT are the result of the tapping process and not a placebo effect.

If you seem to not be making any progress in healing your physical ailments, the Emotional Freedom Technique could benefit you. If you know there is serious emotional upheaval in your past, the Emotional Freedom Technique could benefit you. If you have any stress in your life, the Emotional Freedom Technique could benefit you.
